I agree. There is no way that Denver County has better air than the surrounding counties, by whatever measurement you choose. This information seems so obviously flawed that it is useless.

It is harder for Colorado to lower ozone than it is for Coastal states because the air is typically a mile closer to the sun. The only similarly high altitude state to compare it with is New Mexico, which also did badly. Ozone in part comes from interactions with the sun as a factor and Colorado is sunny. When enough data has been collected Colorado will also score high in small particulates in part due to the need in winter to remove winter ice from roads. Denver switched years ago to using chemically treated tiny gravel instead of sand to lower particulates. At least the above is my understanding from having lived in Colorado for most of my life. The Denver Post is a good resource to learn about Colorado air quality issues.

i echo that. el paso county colorado is not violating the national standard, but denver is by a large margin. something in their data is totally wrong. not even close wrong.

How can Denver county have such a good record when the counties that surround Denver are so much worse (Arapahoe, Jefferson, Weld)? Isn't our air essentially their air?
